Notes On Darcy/Elizabeth

Quotes :

" I have never been much in love; for had I really experienced that pure and elevating passion, I should at present detest his very name, and wish him all manner of evil." p. 113

" My courage always rises with every attempt to intimidate me" p. 131

Anecdotes:

Elizabeth openly criticized Darcy before Colonel Fitzwilliam for his unwillingness to share a dance with the females at Hertfordshire. (p. 131)

Elizabeth experienced mental uneasiness as she failed to note a sign of affection in her encounter with Darcy. (p132)

Darcy accompanies Elizabeth in one of her walks unexpectedly. (p. 137)

Elizabeth discovers the reason behind Bingley's disappearance. Resentment towards Darcy. (p. 140)

Darcy asks for Elizabeth's hand in marriage. She turns the offer down as she explains her hatred for him. (p.142)

Conclusions:

Darcy's character is a mystery. His real intentions and history are slow to emerge and our first impression is slowly replaced by a series of clarified misunderstandings.

Money and power fail to impress Elizabeth. Her sense of loyalty to her family and friends is strong.

Much of what we concluded before might be wrong. The book naturally leads us into jumping to conclusions which are not nearly true.
